KEEPING THE WORLD CLEAN ONE BOTTLE/JAR AT A TIME

Emma had the glass collection service idea in the back of her mind since the council stopped providing it back in 2013, but she didn't know how to develop it. It took one instance, years later, hearing the regular refuse truck loudly "clunking" with the glass bottles,  for her to decide to take things into her own hands, literally. Emma realised that people do not travel to the bottle bank for various reasons -  lack of time, fear of broken glass, and overflowing bottle banks. The boxes are also too heavy for some  (especially for the older population), and many people don't have means of transport. Therefore, their only option is to place the glass with the regular refuse.   Glass is one of the most sustainable materials on earth, as it is infinitely recyclable. Making new glass from recycled glass reduces CO2 emissions and energy use. Every tonne of glass re-melted saves 580kg of carbon dioxide emissions, decreases the energy needed to make glass, and reduces reliance on virgin raw materials. The Glass Lass was created because Emma and her partner discussed their frustrations and realised they both wanted to make recycling in the neighbourhood more effortless and effective.
